Stretching Muscles

Google psoas stretch for instruction and tips

The psoas muscle is a low back muscle located deep in the body, very close to the spine and inside the hip and thigh bones.  This depth, combined with the psoas that originates from the sides of the five lumbar vertebrae, means it plays an important role in back issues.  The psoas is a hip flexor muscle, as I the quadriceps muscle.

Time spent being sedentary like computer work and sitting for a prolong period of time tightens up the quadriceps muscle.

Prolong sitting keeps your hips flexed.  In this position, the quads muscle are in static contraction.  This tends to decrease hip range of motion.

Too much sitting can also tighten up your back muscles.
